The Beginning

Playing has always been a great outlet for me and my daughter, a way to clear our minds and relax. From simple card games to more elaborate board games, and even computer games, we’ve always enjoyed them together.

At the end of 2023, I went through a burnout and depression. During my recovery in early 2024, my daughter came up with an idea for a game she had imagined. Since we often play together and because I had started developing a game years ago, we quickly began brainstorming. I realized how much energy this gave me, so I decided to dive deeper into it.


The Idea

My daughter started by describing a world and a dimension (Mirrorworld) that coexist side by side, where strange things happen. People disappear. Some return with terrifying stories of a world behind the mirrors. She shared the possibilities and the background lore. I won’t reveal too much, as she’s even working on a book about this world. All this sparked so much energy in me that I knew I had to do something with it. So, together, we began brainstorming how to bring this game to life.

We started with the question: How do we want to play?
We decided on a cooperative game, as we love playing those ourselves. Then came the game engine: What do we want players to do? How should they progress and move around the board? After several ideas, we settled on a mechanic inspired by the concept of “fog of war” You never know where the next step will take you until you draw a card.

Once we had the core engine in place, we discussed characters, locations, attributes, and more. We even added personal touches. Every animal in the game is based on pets we have (or had).


Tryouts

After finalizing the board layout and drafting all the cards, we needed to test the game. First, we played as a family (including my son), and he came up with a clever solution for a small but crucial problem we couldn’t solve. After several internal playtests, we invited other gamers. We ran multiple independent sessions with different groups and over 95% were enthusiastic about the game.


And Now?

We are now fully engaged with a manufacturer to produce the game on a larger scale. To make this possible, we’ll be launching a Kickstarter campaign soon. The planning is to get the game in the stores and online for sell in the first quarter of 2026.

Future

Beyond releasing this game, our vision is to create several follow-up games and even a book series, set in the same universe. A world full of mystery and intrigue. And what role do the gods play in all of this? You’ll have to find out…
